4 days + asulkan valley + members of the national skimo team= good times
This fall’s training camp took place in the Asulkan Valley in Rogers Pass. Several teams members skinned up into the Asulkan Hut for several days and hammered out the laps on the slopes.
The objective of the camp was to get high volume on the skis- and that we did. Due to low coverage on the glaciers and the gaping holes we stuck to the trees. The Saturday we had hit 1900 vertical meters before lunch. I knew at this point I had my work cut out for me on the weekend. It was certainly not easy keeping my legs turning hour after hour. The transitions were quick with just a few moments to shove food into my mouth at the bottom of each run. This pace was held for the remainder of the weekend.
It was great to feel challenged and to push myself physical amongst so many incredible athletes. There may not be a magic formula for making gains as an athlete, but spending time with those that are better than you is one guaranteed assurance of growth.
